Adding Simulation Connection Properties

You can create a connection property to specify the physical behavior of an engineering connection. You can add one or several connection properties to an engineering connection directly in the Assembly Design during the definition or the modification of the engineering connection.

Before you begin:
  • Create an engineering connection. See Creating an Engineering Connection.
  • You must install the Structural Analysis (STA) simulation product to create a connection property in the Assembly Design workbench.

  1. In the Engineering Connection Definition dialog box, select the Simulation tab.

  2. In the Connection property list, select the type of connection property you want to create. Select:

    • Distant to create a distant connection property.
    • User-defined to create a user-defined connection property.
    • Face face to create a face face connection property.
    • Fastened to create a fastened connection property.
    • Bolt tightening to create a bolt tightening connection property.
    • Spot weld to create a spot weld connection property.
    • Seam weld to create a seam weld connection property.
    • Curve curve weld to create a curve curve connection property.
    • Surface weld to create a surface weld connection property.

Important: The list of available types depends on the engineering connection type. See About Connection Properties.

  3. Click Add.

The corresponding dialog box appears to let you define the selected connection property.

  4. Define the connection property, and click OK.

    To define a:

A Simulation set that contains the connection property is created under the engineering connection in the specification tree, and the connection property is listed in the Connection Properties list.

  5. Repeat the previous steps to create other connection properties.

You can add several connection properties to an engineering connection.

All the created connection properties are stored under the Simulation set in the specification tree. A Simulation set is created under each engineering connection to which you added connection properties.

  6. Click OK in the Engineering Connection Definition dialog box.
