Synchronizing the Project Data

You can update your structure system as per modified resource file set at Reference Plane System and Common Reference Surface in the Project Resource Management.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Reference Plane System, Common Geometry Reference, Common Reference Surface resources from Project Resource Management resource Common Geometry Resource previously defined are modified.

Synchronize the Planes

You can synchronize your structure system if the Reference Planes System file set in the Project Resource Management is modified.

  1. Open ReferencePlanesSystem.xml and replace CROSS.46 by CROSS.46renamed as shown below.

    Original

    Modified

  2. Set the Project Resource Management resource Reference Planes System such that it points to the modified xml file.

For more information, refer to Project Resource Management.

  3. In the 3D session, right-click the Project Data.1 and select Project Data.1 object > Synchronize the Planes to synchronize the project data.

Image below shows that the CROSS.46 has been renamed into CROSS46renamed.

  4. Open ReferencePlanesSystem.xml and add 10 meters to the offset value of each CROSS plane from CROSS.46 to last CROSS plane.

    Original

    Modified

  5. In the 3D session, right-click the Project Data.1 and select Project Data.1 object > Synchronize the Planes to synchronize the project data..

The image below shows a structure system containing four transverse bulkheads created on planes CROSS.44, CROSS.46, CROSS.48 and CROSS.50 before synchronize the planes.

For more information, refer to Creating a Bulkhead.

The image below shows the same structure system after synchronizing the planes. An update on the structure system was necessary to recomputed all the objects impacted by this change.

You can notice now that the two transverse bulkheads created on CROSS.48 and CROSS.50 have moved 10 meters in fore direction and there is a 10 meters gab between CROSS.46 and CROSS.47.

  6. Add nine new planes in CROSS plane system to fill the gap between CROSS.46 and CROSS.47.

To do so, modify the current ReferencePlanesSystem.xml as shown below

The pictures below show structure system after Synchronize the Planes.

Important: For synchronization, Plane system must have same names.

Synchronization is possible after the following changes in the XML file:

  • Change the name of one or more planes.
  • Change the offset value of one or more planes.
  • Add new planes in an existing plane system.

Notes:

  • Planes with same names and different offsets are synchronized first. Planes with same offset (assuming same plane system name) are synchronized second.

It is recommended to do one type of change at a time. (Change the names, or change the offset values, or add new planes).

  • Coordinates are ignored during synchronization.
  • Deletion of planes is not supported.

Important: Never modify the plane systems in the CATPart. Modifying the plane systems in the CATPart could prevent synchronization.

Synchronize the Reference Surface

You can update your structure system if the Common Geometry Resource file set in the Project Resource Management is modified.

  1. Create a deck limited with the reference surface, Hull1234

For more information, refer to Creating a Deck.

Image below shows the top view of the hull feature and the deck.

  2. Modify your project to use Hull1234_long. (This hull is 10 meters longer than Hull1234.)

    1. Open the Project Resource Management.
    2. Open the Common Geometry Resource.
    3. Set CommonRefernceSurface to Hull1234_long.CATPart.
    4. Set ReferenceSurfaceName to Hull1234_long.

For more information, refer to Project Resource Management.

  3. In the 3D session, right-click the Project Data.1 from specification tree and select Project Data.1 object > Synchronize the Reference Surface to synchronize the reference surface.

Image below shows the same top view after synchronize the hull.

The hull feature is now 10 meter longer and all the objects impacted by this change now need to be updated.

Note: In the specification tree the name of the hull feature is updated to Hull1234_long.

  4. Update the deck.

Image below shows the same top view after an update of the structure system.

The deck has been updated according to the new hull geometry.
