Frequency Simulation Requirements

A frequency simulation determines the natural frequencies of vibration of a structure. If a structure is subject to vibrations at one of its natural frequencies, it will potentially experience large and damaging deformations. In addition to determining the natural frequencies, you can view the response of a structure at each frequency in DesignSight.

Frequency simulations can be performed on any product consisting of a single, solid, three-dimensional part or representation. If you have a license for the DesignSight Structure Plus product, you can also perform frequency simulations on assemblies of multiple parts or representations. Surface geometries are not supported in the frequency simulation method.

Unlike other DesignSight simulations, frequency simulations cannot be run on multiple hosts when performing remote execution. Frequency simulations can be run locally or remotely and can utilize multiple processors, but the processors must all be available on a single host machine. See General Options for more information.

DesignSight frequency simulations are based on Abaqus finite element analysis technology. The Abaqus portfolio of general-purpose finite element analysis products uses the same technology and has been proven to be reliable, robust, and accurate for many years of industrial use in all industries for mission-critical applications. DesignSight provides designers without extensive engineering or simulation experience an easy and intuitive way to gain access to this technology and to collaborate with other users of the Abaqus products.

A frequency simulation on a single part consists of the following actions:
