Licensing Requirements

Using the Abaqus Simulation Engine for remote execution of DesignSight simulations requires licensing from an Abaqus FLEXnet license server.

Remote Execution

Licensing for local execution is handled as part of the standard DesignSight client installation. You are allowed to utilize up to four CPUs on the client machine for running local executions.

Remote executions using the Abaqus Simulation Engine require additional licenses on the remote machines. The Abaqus Simulation Engine uses license tokens from an existing Abaqus FLEXnet license server (for Abaqus 6.9 or higher). The number of CPUs for executing a simulation on remote machines using the Abaqus Simulation Engine and Abaqus FLEXnet licenses is not limited; you are allowed to utilize as many CPUs as are available on your queue or cluster.

You must specify the location of the Abaqus FLEXnet license server in the aqs.env environment file (see Configuring the aqs.env Environment File for more information about this file). In the aqs.env file set abaquslm_license_file="port@license_server_host", where port is the port number and license_server_host is the name of the machine running the license server. If the port number is between 27000 and 27009, you do not need to include it. If redundant servers are used, the parameter should be set to a list of the names of the redundant server hosts and their ports; use a colon to separate the host names.

For simulations submitted via a queue (see Queue Submission), all machines in the queue cluster must have access to the Abaqus FLEXnet license server. For simulations that use direct host submission (see Direct Host Submission), only the submission host requires access to the Abaqus FLEXnet license server.

For more information about the Abaqus FLEXnet license server, consult your license administrator or refer to the Abaqus Installation and Licensing Guide that is provided with the server. If you do not have an existing Abaqus FLEXnet license server at your site, contact your local SIMULIA office.
