Duplicating 2D Elements Using Offset

You can also duplicate by offset one of the following: an edge, a face (all the boundaries of this face are offset) or a geometrical feature (for example, by selecting a join or another sketch in the specification tree).

This task shows you how to duplicate a line (or an element of the following type: arc or circle).

Before you begin:

Create a rectangle, then apply the Corner command to one of its corners.

More about Duplicating 2D Elements Using Offset
  1. Click Offset in the Operation toolbar (Transformation sub-toolbar).

The Sketch tools toolbar now displays four offset options and four different fields for duplicating elements.

  2. Click No Propagation in the Sketch tools toolbar.

It creates the offset of the element you have selected, not the offset of the elements tangent to it.

  3. Select the arc you want to duplicate by offset. The arc to be created appears as you move the cursor.

  4. In the Sketch tools toolbar, enter 3 as the number of offset instances you want to create. By default, only one instance is created.

  5. Just click where you want the first instance to be located or if you know where this element must be precisely located, use one or more Sketch tools toolbar value fields for defining the location.

  6. Press Enter when done. All the three created lines are parallel to the original one.

Tip: If Geometrical Constraints and Dimensional Constraints are active in the Sketch tools toolbar when offsetting an element, constraints are automatically created, based on the type of element you are offsetting. Thus, if you move an element, or change its geometry, the other element will be moved or modified accordingly.
