Inserting an Existing 3D Part

You can insert a 3D part with positioning in Assembly design context.


Before you begin: Open an assembly.

  1. Right-click a product without representation and select Insert > 3D Part with positioning... from the contextual menu.

    The Select 3D parts to insert dialog box appears.

  2. Select in the Select 3D parts to insert dialog the 3D part to be inserted and click OK.

    The Engineering Connection Definition dialog box appears.

    Important:
    • The instantiated 3D part is selected and highlighted.
    • The Robot is positioned at the bounding box center of the instantiated 3D part:
      • The instantiated 3D part can be dropped in the geometry area by left-clicking.
      • The instantiated 3D part cannot be pre-snapped until once of its geometrical elements is selected.

  3. Click anywhere to drop the 3D part

    The 3D part is positioned.

  4. Select and drag slightly one of its geometrical elements, then release the left button of the mouse.

    The snap capability is initialized.

  5. Select the geometrical element on another component where you want to snap the instantiated 3D part.

    A constraint is created in the Engineering Connection Definition dialog box.

  6. Click OK in the Engineering Connection Definition dialog box.

    The 3D part is positioned.
