Selecting a Part

You can select a part in different ways to place it in your design.

Select a Part from a Catalog

You can select a part in the catalog.

  1. Click Place Part in the Compass Toolbar.

    A balloon opens.

  2. In the balloon, click Part selection > Find part using catalog .

    The Catalog Browser dialog box opens.

  3. Select a catalog in the drop-down list.

    Note: The catalogs available in the drop-down list are those imported by your administrator. They contain parts or equipment.

    Several parts categories are displayed in the catalog tree.

    The Filter field shows what filters, if any, have been applied to the search.

  4. Optional: Click More... to find a part from search.

  5. Expand a part category.

    The parts available are displayed in the Item name column.

  6. Select a part.

  7. Place the part using one of the placement methods.

Select a Part by Defining a Subtype

You can select a part by defining its subtype.

  1. Click Place Part in the Compass Toolbar.

    A balloon opens.

  2. In the balloon, click Part selection > Define part sub type or select a new part .

    The Part Subtypes dialog box opens.

  3. Select a subtype in the drop-down list.

  4. Select a placement method.

  5. Click at the location you want to place the part.

    The Catalog Browser dialog box opens to let you choose the part to place.

  6. Select a part.

    The selected part is placed.

Select a Part Using PLM Chooser

You can select a part by searching the database.

  1. Click Place Part in the Compass Toolbar.

    A balloon opens.

  2. In the balloon, click Part selection > Find part using PLM chooser .

    The Object Selection dialog box opens.

  3. In the From Search tab, enter a search string and click Search.

    Parts containing the search string are displayed.

    You can also use the Advanced Search option:

    1. Click Advanced Search. The Search Criteria dialog box opens.
    2. Choose the different attributes you want to apply to your search.
    3. Click OK.

    Note: The From Session tab allows you to search a part in your active session.

  4. Select the part of your choice and click OK.

  5. Place the part using one of the placement methods.
