Procedure for Locating Hole Design Features to be Machined

You can locate circular edges in a selected face. These edges may be included in further operations, such as mirror transformations, for example

Before you begin:

The working method described below can be used on a part like the one shown below, in which two holes have been created by a mirror transformation of two existing holes.

Specify the Machining Operation

Select a machining operation in the Activities Process Tree.

  • Activate the Manufacturing Program and click Drilling in the Axial Machining Operations toolbar.

    The Drilling dialog box appears directly at the Geometry tab .

Search Features within a Range of Diameters

This procedure shows you how to globally define a range of diameters for edges to be searched.

  • Right-click No Points field and select Find Features Through Faces in the contextual menu.




    • The Search Parameters dialog box appears.

    • The Find Edges of Faces toolbar appears.

      It allows you to filter the search based on:
      • Design feature hole parameters
      • Reference feature selection.

Filter the Search by a Query

Define and run a query in Feature Query Editor dialog box.

  1. In the Find Edges of Faces toolbar, click Define Feature Query .

  2. In the dialog box that appears, define and run a query like the one shown below.



Select the Reference Geometry

Locate circular edges in a selected face.

  1. Select the face where the circular edges are to be searched.

  2. Select Choose Reference Feature , then select a reference feature.



Locate the Desired Hole Features

Locate circular edges in a selected face.

  1. Select Search Circular Edges to start the search.

    The circular edges of holes identical to the reference feature are selected and highlighted in the part.

  2. Click OK in the tool bar to accept the selection.

    The No Points field in the Drilling dialog box is updated with the number of selected holes.

  3. Continue defining the machining operation to machine the selected holes.
