Instantiating a User Feature From a Representation, From a Selection, and From a Catalog

You have four different methods to instantiate a User Feature: From a Representation, From a Selection, From a Catalog and using a VB macro.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Refer to the User Features and Power Copies: Sample topic to create the model required to perform this scenario.
  • For the section From a Catalog, you must have created a catalog containing at least one User Feature.

  2. Click and select Knowledgeware > Templates > Product Knowledge Template workbench.

  3. Click Instantiation From Representation . The Object Selection dialog box is displayed.

  4. Search in the database for the 3D Shape Representation you saved in Creating a User Feature using the From Search tab.

  5. Double-click it in the list. The Insert Object dialog box is displayed.

    • From the Reference scrolling list, select the User Feature that you want to instantiate (Pad2 in this scenario).

    • Click the Point.2 object in the document geometry area or in the specification tree.

    • Click the Point.3 object in the document geometry area or in the specification tree.

    • Click the face.

  6. Click OK when you are done. The User Feature is instantiated.

From a Selection

You can instantiate a User Feature from a selection.

  1. Search in the database for the 3D Shape Representation you saved in Creating a User Feature.

  2. Create a representation made up of two 2 points and a surface.

  3. Tile the window vertically.

  4. Expand the KnowledgeTemplates node in the representation containing the User Feature and click Pad2.

  5. Go to the representation containing the two points and click Instantiation From Selection . The Insert Object dialog box is displayed.

  6. Click Use identical name and click the Pad.

  7. Click OK when done. The User Feature is instantiated.

From a Catalog

You can instantiate a User Feature from a catalog.

  1. Create a representation made up of a surface and two points.

  2. Click and select Knowledgeware > Templates > Product Knowledge Template workbench.

  3. Click Catalog Browser . The Catalog Browser opens. Click More.... The Choose a Catalog or Chapter window opens.
