Creating a New Domain from an Existing One

You can create a new domain from an existing domain that belongs to another material.

Before you begin:
  • At least two materials must be defined in the database and loaded in session. A domain must be defined in one of the materials.
  • You must be in a material editor window or in a product window.

Modifying Material Domain Properties
  1. Right-click the material in which you want to add a domain, and select Add Domain From.

  2. In the specification tree, select the domain that belongs to another material and from which you want to create the new domain.

Important: You cannot assign more than one domain of the same type to a single material, except for the ELFINI linear elastic domain.

A new domain is created under the material with a default name and with the same domain properties as the domain from which it has been created.

If needed, you can now rename the domain you created and modify its properties (see Modifying Material Domain Properties).

Example

Consider the following example:

To create a new domain in MyNewMaterial001 based on the rendering domain named Iron_Rendering_65256, right-click MyNewMaterial001, select Add Domain From, and select Iron_Rendering_65256 under the Iron material.

The rendering domain named Material_52724_Domain_52725 is created under MyNewMaterial001 and has the same rendering characteristics as the Iron_Rendering_65256 domain.

To create a domain in MyNewMaterial001 based on the ELFINI linear elastic domain of the Iron material, right-click MyNewMaterial001, select Add Domain From, and select Iron_MATERIAL_65258 under the Iron material.

An ELFINI linear elastic domain is created under MyNewMaterial001.

This domain has the same physical properties as Iron_MATERIAL_65258.
