Using the Manipulation, Ik Worker, and Segment Functions

This describes how to move the manikin's segments using the inverse kinematics' commands in the Manikin Posture toolbar.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Have a manikin in your scenario

General Functionality

General Functionality of the Inverse Kinematics Modes.

  1. Click IK Worker Frame mode This mode behaves in the same manner except the compass is oriented in the worker (global) frame.

  2. IK Segment Frame mode In this mode, any segment selection made in the 3D environment automatically snaps the compass to the associated segment IK control point. The compass is oriented in the segment frame.

Integrated Manipulation Mode

Integrated Manipulation Mode

The concept of this consists to integrate the all the benefits of each manipulation command inside one unique manipulation mode. There are actually 5 different manipulation commands for changing the posture of the manikin: IK Mode, Reach Mode, FK Mode, Posture Editor and Standard Pose. All these commands are independent and have a very specific modus operandi. Some of them, like the IK Mode and the Reach Mode, can be tuned by changing the combination of the IK behavior options.

  1. Click Immersive Manipulation Mode , and in this scenario, select the manikins hand.

  2. Move the compass, and the manikin's body moves accordingly.

The bubble selection also appears. See the Balloon Bar's Icons.

Inverse Kinematics (IK) Worker Frame Mode

The Inverse Kinematics (IK) Worker Frame Mode

  1. Select the IK Worker Frame Mode

  2. Select a manikin segment. The compass snaps to the selected segment's control point.

The seven control points See About the Manipulation, Ik Worker, and IK Segment Frame Commands

  3. On the compass, select the axis corresponding to the direction of the desired movement and start dragging. The controlled point follows the compass movements.

  4. The compass can be locked to stay in the plane you are working on. Use the compass contextual menu (click the compass with the right mouse button) and select Lock Privileged Plane Orientation Parallel to Screen.

Inverse Kinematics (IK) Segment Frame Mode

Inverse Kinematics (IK) Segment Frame Mode.

  1. This orients the compass in the segment frame. Compare how the compass orientation differs from that in the IK Worker Frame Mode.

  2. When finished, drag the compass back to the empty space or select View > Reset Compass from the main menu.
