Opening a Simulation Without the Model

You can open a simplified version of a simulation that contains only a filtered subset of the objects in the Model category.

Before you begin:

You must open a filtered version of the product before you open a filtered version of the simulation. For example, if you have a complex product that contains many parts, you can open a filtered version of the product that contains a Model category with only selected parts. You can then open a simulation that contains the same filtered version of the product. However, the simplified version of the simulation must include any objects (part and mesh representations) that take part in the simulation.

  1. Open a filtered version of your product that contains all of the objects that will be active in the simulation. Filtering is described in detail in Filtering Data in the Infrastructure User's Guide. The following describes one approach for opening a filtered product:

    1. Search for the product and explore it, as described in Exploring an Object.
    2. In the toolbar, click Filter and create the appropriate filter. In most cases, you will filter on an attribute, such as the name of the representation that you want to include. See Filtering Data using an Attribute Filter.
    3. Select Tools > Store Filter to save the filter with a specified name.
    4. Search for the product.
    5. Right-click on the product in the Search Results window, and select Open With Filter from the contextual menu.

The product opens and contains only the objects specified in the filter.

  2. Do either of the following to open the simulation with the same filtered version of the product:

    • Search for the simulation, right-click on the simulation in the Search Results window, and select Open without Model from the contextual window.
    • Explore the simulation, right-click on the simulation in the specification tree of the Navigator window, and select Open without Model from the contextual menu.

The simulation opens. The simulation's model category contains only the objects specified in the filter.

Warning: If you want to modify the links between objects in the simulation, the simplified version of the simulation must include the objects to which you are referring; see About Links and Relations for more information.
