Cutting Images by Plane

You can use the cut by plane capability to visualize image results in a plane section through the structure. By dynamically changing the position and orientation of the cutting plane, you can rapidly analyze the results inside the system.


Before you begin: At least, an image must exist and must be activated.

  1. Optional: If you want that a particular face to be considered as the reference section, position the compass on the face that will be considered as the reference section.

    If you do not position the compass, the compass will be automatically positioned on the part, with a cutting plane normal to its privileged direction.

  2. In the Image Tools toolbar, click Cut by Plane .

    The cutting plane is displayed, and the Cut by Plane dialog box appears. If several images are activated and then displayed, they are all cut by the cutting plane. In this case, you can use the image layout capability to tile the image visualization.

  3. To visualize the section relatively to the position of the cutting plane, select the View section only check box.

    By default, the View section only check box is not selected.

  4. To visualize only the boundary of the cutting plane, clear the Show cutting plane check box.

    By default, the Show cutting plane check box is selected.

  5. By default, the Clip 3d view check box is selected. To reverse the direction of the clipping plane, click Reverse Direction.

  6. To project the vectors of symbol images on the cutting plane, select the Project vectors on plane check box.

  7. Handle the compass using the cursor and rotate or translate the cutting plane.

  8. Click Close.
