Starting a New DesignSight Simulation

You can start a DesignSight simulation while working on a product in another workbench, or you can create a new simulation and select a product to use in the simulation.

  1. There are two ways to create a new DesignSight simulation:

    • Click , and select Simulation > DesignSight.
    • From the menu bar, select PLM Access > New. In the list of types in the New dialog box, expand Simulation, select DesignSight, and click Next.

  2. In the PLM attribute dialog box, enter an appropriate name and attributes for the Simulation, then click Finish.

  3. If a product is not currently open, use the PLM Chooser to select a product on which the simulation will be performed. You are also prompted to select a product if the currently open product does not meet the DesignSight simulation criteria.

See Using the PLM Chooser for more information.

  4. In the Select a Method panel, highlight the simulation method you want to use, and click OK.

The simulation method reflects the type of response you want to study in your model. The method determines which simulation features can be defined on your model and which results will be returned by the simulation, as well as the actions that appear in the Simulation Panel. The list of available methods depends on which DesignSight products have been installed at your site. For a description of all the simulation methods, see DesignSight Simulation Methods.

  5. If the PLM attribute dialog box appears, enter a name and attributes for the Finite element model, then click Finish.

The finite element model is a specialized representation of your product that is necessary for simulation calculations. DesignSight creates this representation automatically and adds it to your product structure (a separate finite element representation is created for each simulation you perform on the product).

Your product opens in the DesignSight workbench.
