Opening Objects from a Navigation Window

You can select the V6 objects or the tree structure to be loaded in the Authoring window using the Open command.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • You cannot open non-V6 objects.
  • You cannot open an object created using V6 if its name contains national characters or forbidden special characters. For a reminder, seeAbout Filenames .
  • Visualization filters are not taken into account.
  • If no object is selected when running the Open command, the viewpoint of the Navigation window is applied to the Authoring window. But if an object is selected, the viewpoint of the Authoring window is not modified.

Opening Selected Objects from a Navigation Window

Before running the Open command from a Navigation window, you can select the objects to be loaded in the Authoring window.

  1. From a Navigation window, select the objects you want to open (you can select multiple objects).

  2. Click Open in the VPM Navigator toolbar.

    Tip: You can also
    • Press Ctrl+O
    • Right-click the object then select Open
    • Select PLM Access > Open > Open

A progress bar is displayed and the selected object opens in a separate Authoring window. Any object you open from the root node window ("ajt_Car" in our example) will be placed under the root node. The selected objects open in their editor. Below are two examples:

Example 1. If these two elements are selected:

The result is as follows:

Example 2. If these two elements are selected:

The result is as follows:

Important:
  • By default, only the selected elements are open in their context with their design specifications.
  • No element is locked at opening.
  • When a filter or a configuration is applied, only the filtered references are taken into account, not the filtered representations. All the design representations will be opened whatever the filter applied to the representations. The defined filter (if any) is taken into account when the structure is expanded.

Opening Visible Objects from a Navigation Window

Before running the Open command from a Navigation window, only a few interactions are needed to define the exact structure to be loaded in the Authoring window.

  1. From a Navigation window, expand the product structure.

  2. Use the appropriate VPM Navigator commands to specify the tree structure.

  3. Optional: If you are not already in In-place mode, click Swap Turntable/In-place to take the viewpoint into account when loading objects in the Authoring window. For more information, see Live ENOVIA V6 Connector User User's Guide: Modifying the Navigation Mode.

  4. Click Open in the VPM Navigator toolbar.

The object opens in a separate Authoring window with the same visible structure as the one set in the Navigation window.

Example 1. The viewpoint is modified in In-place mode in the Navigation window:

The modification is kept when objects are loaded in the Authoring window:

Example 2. One branch is removed in the Navigation window:

The removed branch is not loaded in the Authoring window:

Important: Only design representations are loaded:
  • Drawing
  • Engineering Specification
  • Mechanism
  • Review
  • Validation Review
  • Logical for Manufacturing
  • Human for Manufacturing
  • Product with Automation logical.

Representations are not displayed in their dedicated editors.
