Welcome to the File-based Design Import User's Guide (FBDI). This guide is intended for users who need to import Files from Previous CATIA or DELMIA Versions into Version 6 (V6).

This overview provides the following information:

File-based Design Import in a Nutshell

File-based Design Import enables to import V4 and V5 files and their related documents, into the V6 database.

Once these documents are migrated, they can be stored and loaded from database to be used as native V6 data.

It allows customers to use V6 in order to take benefit of V6 full functionalities and to get advantage of V4 and V5 legacy.

The FBDI process can be launched interactively (Running FBDI Interactively) or in batch mode (Running the FBDI Batch).

Before reading this guide, you should be familiar with basic V6 concepts such as document windows, standard and view toolbars. We recommend that you read the Infrastructure User's Guide, which describes generic capabilities common to all Version 6 products.

It also describes the general layout of V6 and the interoperability between workbenches.
