You can rename a selection of fasteners.

Before you begin: Create a fastener set containing one or more spot fasteners.

  1. In the specification tree or in the 3D area, select the one or more fasteners you want to rename.

Tip: If you select a fastener set, its children fasteners are selected and highlighted in the specification tree.

  2. Click Fasteners Rename .

The Fasteners Renaming dialog box is displayed.

  3. Select one of the two available solutions to retrieve the number part in the identifier:

    • Automatic: If the identifier does not contain any numerical part, then the prefix is similar to the identifier, the suffix is empty and the number is equal to 0.

    • Specify: You need to specify start and end limits for the Number field in the Start Digits and End Digits fields.

  4. Choose the method for renaming fasteners. You can either:

    • compute new prefix, suffix and Number parameters:

      • select the Prefix with option and enter the prefix that will replace the one initialized with the common prefix of all selected fasteners (only the fasteners that match the prefix to be found will be renamed).

      • select the Suffix with option and enter the suffix that will replace the one initialized with the common suffix of all selected fasteners (only the fasteners that match the suffix to be found will be renamed).

      • select the Numerical offset option and enter a value to replace the computed number of the current identifier.

      Warning:
      • If the number of numerical characters is exceeded (as defined by the key "Rules_Naming_Digits" in the standard file), then the numerical characters are replaced by #. For instance: Rules_Naming_Digits = 3 Prefix = ABF_ Suffix = _SUFF Number = 999 Therefore, a fastener called ABF_999_SUFF will be called ABF_###_SUFF after a translation by 1 of its name. To cancel the operation, simply use the Undo command.
      • In Automatic mode, you should avoid the use of numeric strings for Prefix and Suffix as the fastener name will not be as expected. If you want to use numeric strings, switch to the Specify mode so as to detect the fastener number and rename the fastener correctly.

      • select the Apply standard fixed length number option to replace the computed number part of the identifier with the equivalent fixed-length numerical string.

    • launch the defined naming rule: select the Fastener Set naming rule option to apply the naming rule and give the fastener the next possible identifier. You can check the next possible identifier when editing the Editing and Modifying Fastening Rules. If any of the above Replace options were previously selected, they are automatically cleared.

  5. Click OK to apply the new naming rules on the selected fasteners.

Tip: You can also change a fastener name directly in the specification tree by double-clicking the fastener to edit it.
