Previewing Work Instructions

You can preview a work instruction while you are in a session to see how it looks on MES or you can make a copy of it in HTML format, so you can review the preview version.

Before you begin:
  1. Do one of the following:
    • Create two XSLT files to format the work instructions (as an example, DS DELMIA supplies sample XSLT files in intel_a/startup/WorkInstructions, which is in your installation directory).
    • Use the two sample files DS DELMIA provides. One sample file creates a kind of home page for all the work instructions associated with all the operations in a system; the other is for each operation's work instructions.
  2. If you create your own, import the XSLT files into the V6 database using PLM Access > Import > File, and insert them into a catalog. (See Authoring a Catalog.)
  3. Open the Work Instructions Planning workbench.

  1. Right-click on the frame of any operation on the Operations Sequencer, and select Preview All.

The Select System and Operation XSLT dialog box appears.

The dialog box lists the two sample XSLT files. The button next to each type of file enables you to select a customized XSLT from your catalog, if you prefer.

  2. You can either:

    • Click OK (i.e., accept the sample XSLT files).
    • Click the button next to one (or each) sample file. The Catalog Browser appears; use it to select the XSLT you want to use, and click OK on the Catalog Browser. The list in the Select System and Operation XSLT shows the XSLT file you selected in the browser. Click OK in the Select System and Operation XSLT dialog box.

An immersive browser appears, which previews the work instructions for the system.

The browser contains a home page listing all the operations within the system. If an operation contains one or more work instructions, the operation contains a hyperlink to a page with those instructions.

Notes: To preview the instructions for only one operation, right click on the operation in the Operations Sequencer frame, and select Preview. As with Preview All, a dialog box appears that enables you to select either the sample XSLT or one from a catalog.

You can select Preview on an operation other than the one that is selected as the operation to which you are adding work instructions (i.e., the one with the white border).

  3. Resize the browser, if you like, and click on a link to see the work instructions for a specific operation.

You can also use scroll bars to see information.

The operation's instructions appear in the browser. If you have attached images or screen captures to the instructions, those images appear in the work instructions.

If you have attached non-image documents, links to those documents appear.

  4. Right-click anywhere on the work instruction and select Back.

The browser returns you to the home page.

  5. Save the work instructions in HTML format on your computer.

Below the browser is a path to a folder on your computer plus the Folder and Save commands. By default, the path is: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Dassault Systemes\CATTemp.

    1. If you want to change the directory into which the htm work instructions are saved, click Folder , and navigate to the desired directory.
    2. Click Save .

An HTML version of the work instructions is saved. These files are standard HTML files and can be opened in any HTML browser.

  6. Click in the upper left of the browser to close it.
