Overview

Welcome to the V4 Integration User's Guide. This guide is intended for users who need to migrate data between CATIA V4 (V4) and CATIA V6 (V6).

This overview provides the following information:

V4 Integration in a Nutshell

V4 Integration is a product which includes two-way interoperability between CATIA V6 and CATIA V4 data.

As an open solution, it includes interfaces with the most commonly used data exchange industry standards. It allows you to use V6 applications and get advantage of V4 legacy.

V4 designs can be accessed, exchanged and processed thus ensuring continuity, and protecting V4 customer investment while taking advantage of V6 functionalities. In CATIA V6, it is possible to:

  • Import a V4 model in V6 via File-based Design Import. See Model Editor File-based Design Import .
  • Copy / paste the model in a 3D Shape.
  • Propagate and save in database the 3D Shape.
  • Load and edit the 3D Shape.

V6 data can be converted and modified in V4, enabling V6 data to benefit from the breadth of CATIA V4 Solutions. The user can:

  • Save a V6 document As a .model (in interactive or Batch mode) from a CATIA V6 session.
  • Browse and edit the .model in V4.

Before Reading this Guide

Before reading this guide, you should be familiar with basic V6 concepts such as document windows, standard and view toolbars.

Therefore, we recommend that you read the Infrastructure User's Guide that describes generic capabilities common to all V6 products. It also describes the general layout of V6 and the interoperability between workbenches.

Getting the Most Out of this Guide

To get the most out of this guide, we suggest you first read the sections dealing with the manipulation of V4 models in V6.

Such as, Importing and using CATIA V4 Models in CATIA V6, Selecting Geometric Elements on V4 Models and Copying 3D from CATIA V4 to CATIA V6 in V6. Then, you should move on to the pages describing capabilities making your migration more productive Optimizing V4 / V6 Migration.

The Interface Description section, which describes the Electrical Wire Routing workbench, and the Customizing section, which explains how to set up the options, will also certainly prove useful.
