About View Update Status

The annotations are integrated to the 2D layout view update status. Therefore, a 2D layout view update status depends on the update status of all its annotations. If one of the view annotations is not up-to-date, its containing view becomes not up-to-date as well.

Whenever, a view is updated, its not up-to-date annotations are updated first and once all its annotations are up-to-date, the view would update itself.

Synchronous Update

Synchronous update is associative and performed automatically.

For example, in the following cases, the update is done synchronously:


  • Dimensions associative to view content.
  • Text annotations having positional or orientation links associative to view content.
  • Text annotation and its associative parameter (attribute link or text template) are both in the same location and same representation.

Note: If you open a representation which is prior to V6R2011x, and want the view update status dependent on annotations, you need to upgrade the view. Refer to Upgrading Views for more information.

Asynchronous Update

Like the synchronous update, the asynchronous update is associative but it has to be performed explicitly by clicking Update .

In the following scenarios, an update is done asynchronously:


  • Dimensions associative to 2D/3D background: When the involved 2D/3D background changes, there is an impact on the dimension and it becomes not up-to-date, setting its view update status not up-to-date as well. In this case, you need to update the view by clicking Update .

    The following figure depicts this scenario:

  • Text annotation and its associative parameter (attribute link or text template) are both in different locations but in the same representation: When the associated parameter changes, the annotation is impacted and becomes not up-to-date, setting its view update status not up-to-date as well. In this case, you need to update the view by clicking Update .
  • Text annotation and its associated parameter (attribute link or text template) are both in different locations and different representations: In this case, the update is asynchronous and need to perform in two steps.
    1. Synchronize the link so that the text annotation and consequently the view becomes not up-to-date. For more information about synchronizing links, refer to Updating and Synchronizing External Links.
    2. Update the view by clicking Update .
