Creating Threads With a Reference

You can create a thread with a reference, either circular (circle or point) or linear (line). For example, you can apply a thread to a hole with a line as reference.

  1. Click Thread with Reference in the Dress-up toolbar (Axis and Threads sub-toolbar).

Tip: An alternative method is to select several holes and then click Thread .

The Tools Palette appears, displaying the following options:

    • Reference Tap , which is activated by default.

    • Reference Thread .

  2. Select Reference Thread .

  3. Select the hole (or circle) to which you want to apply the thread.

  4. Select a reference line.

The thread is created according to this reference.

  5. Select an axis line manipulator and drag it along a direction.

Thread axis lines are modified symmetrically.

Tip: If you want to move only one axis line, hold on the Ctrl key while you are dragging the manipulator.
    Important:
    • When creating a thread associated to interactive (2D) geometry, the 2D circle radius is computed according to the following formula:

      Thread Radius = 2D Circle Radius * 1.125mm +0.25mm.

The Metric Thin Pitch or Metric Thick Pitch defined by standards being different, these cannot be applied.

    • When creating a thread associated to generative geometry, a message will be displayed if the thread cannot be associative to the 3D. In this case, the thread is neither linked to the 3D nor to 2D geometry. For example, a non-associative thread with a reference line will not be updated when the reference line is moved.
