Detecting Clashes and Contacts during Preview

During preview of a kinematics simulation, you can highlight clashing parts and contacting parts in the mechanism, or you can stop the animation when two parts clash.

Before you begin: A kinematics simulation must be open in the Kinematics Simulation workbench, and an interference probe must be defined and included in the scenario.

  1. Select a Clash and Contact Detection setting to determine how clashes and contact between parts in the mechanism are handled during the preview:

    • On: Highlights contacting parts and clashing parts during the preview of the kinematics simulation.
    • Stop: Stops the animation when two parts are in contact or in clash.

Note: The Clash Detection setting applies to any interference probes included in the kinematics scenario.

  2. Select the scenario you want to preview in the specification tree.

  3. Click Preview. See Running the Preview for more information.

    The Simulation Player appears.

  4. Use the controls on the Simulation Player or the Compass to animate your mechanism or to step through the time increments in your simulation.

For more information about using the Simulation Player, see the Assembly Path Definition User's guide: About the Simulation Player.
