Creating a View from 3D

You can generate views from the following workbenches:

  • Functional Tolerancing and Annotation

  • 2D Layout for 3D Design

Note: You can create a view from a 2D Layout for 3D Design view which uses a generative view style. In this case, the generative view style is entirely managed in the 2D Layout for 3D Design view and layout. Refer to More about View from 3D for more information.

Before you begin:
  • Open a representation of a 3D part or assembly containing FTA annotations or a layout.
  • Click > Mechanical > Drafting to create a new drawing representation.
  • Go to Tools > Options > Mechanical > Drafting > View tab and make sure that:
    • Exact view is selected as the view generation mode in the View Generation area (other view generation modes - CGR, Approximate and Raster - are not supported).
    • Generate 2D Geometry is selected in the View from 3D area (this specifies that 2D geometry should be generated).

    • If you are creating a view from Functional Tolerancing and Annotation: the view to be created is previewed (included annotations) on the sheet. You cannot modify the view orientation, but you can modify the view position by dragging it using the left mouse button.
    • If you are creating a view from 2D Layout for 3D Design: no preview is available.

  3. Click the drawing sheet at the location where you want to create the new view.

The view is created in the drawing, and it is listed in the drawing specification tree.
