Creating Datum Targets

You can specify datum targets on datum elements.

Before you begin: Open an existing 3D shape.

About Datum and Datum Target

  1. Activate the Front View.1 annotation plane.

  2. Click Datum Target

  3. Select the face as shown.

    The Datum Target Creation dialog box appears.



  4. Click Diameter in the Datum Target Creation dialog box.

    1. Enter 8 in the first field
    2. Enter D1 in the last field.



  5. Click OK to validate.

    You have created a datum target on datum plane D;

    • The datum target corresponds to a 8 mm diameter surface.
    • Its name is "D1" and it is identified as "Target..xxx" in the specification tree.

    Important:

    This datum target is only a 3D annotation without any semantic link to the geometrical tolerancing.
