Creating Clamps

You can create a clamp on geometric support, that is to say you can fix in one-shot all the degrees of freedom of a selection of supports. Clamps are restraints applied to surface or curve geometries, for which all points are to be blocked in the simulation (all degrees of freedom are fixed).

Before you begin: A structural analysis simulation containing a restraint set must be open.

  1. In the Restraints toolbar, click Clamp .

    The Clamp dialog box appears.

  2. Optional: In the Name box, modify the name of the restraint.

  3. Select the supports you want to fix all the degrees of freedom.

    See Authorized Supports.

Tip: You can select several supports in sequence to apply the clamp specification to all supports simultaneously. Any selectable geometry is highlighted when you pass the cursor over it.

Symbols representing a fixed translation in all directions of the selected geometry are visualized.

  4. Click OK.

The clamp is created, and Clamp.1 appears in the specification tree both under the excitation library and under the current scenario.
