Defining a Backshell

You can add electrical behavior to a standard 3D shape to turn it into a backshell. Backshell is used to guide the ends of conductors and to protect the crimping area.

Before you begin: Create a mechanical product containing a standard 3D shape.

  1. Double-click the 3D shape representation or a About Electrical Devices in the specification tree.

The workbench switches to Electrical Part Design.

  2. Click Backshell or select Insert > Device Behavior > Backshell...

The standard 3D shape is automatically detected.

The BackShell Definition dialog box opens:

  3. Specify a Name, for example Backshell.

  4. Enter the Extra length, for example 15mm.

The Extra Length corresponds to the conductor length necessary to connect a segment to a single insert connector through a backshell.

  5. Click OK to validate.

The selected part is now an electrical backshell.
