Creating Components

A component is defined by a part number (associated to the product) and a package name (associated to the representation). Components can be electrical or mechanical; the component type is managed as an attribute.

You can create electrical and mechanical components interactively.

  1. Select PLM Access > Mechanical product... to create a product and associated 3D shape representation.

  2. Create the component geometry:

    1. Use Sketch to draw the outline.
    2. Use Pad to create a pad.



  3. Click Component .

    The Component dialog box opens.



    Components are defined by a package number (associated with the representation) and a part number (associated with the product).

  4. Optional: Enter a name for the representation in the Package number box.

    Note: If you enter a different name, the representation is renamed when you click OK.

  5. Optional: Enter a name in the Part number box.

  6. In the Component type list, select electrical or mechanical to define the component type.

  7. Click OK to validate.

    The component is created with appropriate electrical or mechanical behavior. You can now instantiate your component in an assembly.
