Viewing Documents in Turntable View

This task explains how to view external documents in the turntable view of VPM Navigator using 3D icons specific to your document type. This will improve your ability to identify external documents as many of the more common document and image file types will be displayed with unique CGR 3D icons.

Establishing the Icons

This task provides information about the icons used for different document types.

  1. Default icons are provided for the following:

    Document types: .doc, .ppt, .xls, .pdf, .txt

    Image File types: .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .gif, .bmp, .png, .tiff

    MS Office 2007 formats: .pptx, .docx, .xlsx

    All other file extensions are represented by the default External Document Management CGR 3D icon.

  2. To add additional 3D icons specific to a particular file type, add the CGR with the correct naming convention in the run-time view defined in the CATGraphicPath environment variable. Template CATParts can be found in PLMNavRscDocument/Data/d/. The following convention should be followed: PLMDMTDocument_<file type extension>.cgr, e.g. PLMDMTDocument_jpg.cgr

Viewing Document Icons in the Turntable View

This task shows you how to view the documents icon in the Turntable mode.

  1. Search for an external document.

  2. In the search results, right-click the tab and select Turntable. The search results are displayed as icons, particular to the type of document found in the search.
