Open Document in Native Application
This task shows how to open a document in its native editor.
- Right-click a document in the VPM Navigator tree and
select Open the proposed document.
The document is opened in it's native editor.
Note:
When you select Open,
the document is simply retrieved (copied out) from the vault, put into
a temporary file and launched into the appropriate editor. If
a file by the same name and extension exists in the temporary directory,
then a Unique Identifier will be added to the document so that it doesn't
overwrite the other document of the same name. No changes to the
document will be saved to the vault while opening the document.
Open for Edit Document in Native Application
This task shows you how to open a document in their native application for editing.
Right-click a document in the VPM Navigator tree and
select Open for Edit .
For Word, Excel and PowerPoint file types (*.doc, *.xls, *.ppt) the
document will automatically be checked out, given a temporary file name
which will be guaranteed to be unique, and opened in the native editor
for the respective document. If any changes are made to the file
and the Office application is closed before the CATIA session is closed,
the file will be automatically checked back in.
For documents other than Word, Excel and PowerPoint
file types, jpg for example, the file chooser window appears.
From the file chooser window, select the location to
store the open file and click Save.
The document is opened in it's native editor. It is
checked out from the vault.
The Checked Out status in the search results list is changed
to True. The Checked out user column displays
the name of the user who has checked out the file.
Note: Refresh of attributes is not automatic in VPM Navigator or
PLM Search. You will see the status change next time you
perform search for the documents.
