Split and Import

This section describes how to customize Split and Import settings for File-based Design Import (FBDI) and Coexistence and Migration.

Select the Split and Import tab to access Split administration options.

Maximum recommended values for each package to import

The following settings allow a customization of the Split package size. The FBDI Import of large documents may be CPU consuming, therefore this setting allows to divide the Import into sub-processes.

The memory usage is smaller in the Split Import mode than in the standard Import mode because a smaller number of documents to be saved in database are opened simultaneously.

These functionalities can take into effect in Batch mode only.

Number of Documents

The default number of file base documents to import in the same package is 100.

Total size in megabytes of documents

The default disk size of the sum of file-based documents to import in the same package is 100 Megabytes.

These settings are by default maximum values and they define the number of packages and sub-processes to launch.

In particular cases, these default settings cannot be taken into account. For example:

  • Contextual links between a CATPart and a CATproduct force documents in the same package.
  • A single document can also exceed the defined total size in Megabits.
  • The number of documents in the last packages may decrease to keep under control the memory consumption.

No error or warning will occur if the defined settings cannot be respected.

These default values are recommended ones. Reducing them will increase the number of packages and consequently each package will need less memory and less CPU time. But it will increase the time necessary to start an higher number of processes. On the contrary, if settings are increased, packages will be larger, there will be less import processes, but each one will need more memory and more CPU time.
