Moving a Part

You can move a part.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Open a document containing one or more parts you want to move.

Move a Part Using Robot Z Direction

You can move a part in Z direction using the Robot Z Direction command.

  1. Click Modify in the Compass Toolbar.

  2. Select the part

    The balloon appears.

  3. Click Manipulate > Move > Robot Z Direction in the balloon.

  4. Select the part you want to move, a directional arrow displays on the part.

  5. Click and drag the arrow to move the part in the negative or positive Z direction.



Note: Use Reverse Offset to move the part in the opposite direction; and Reset Location, to move it to its original position.

Move a Part Using Ports

You can using the ports that are built in it.

  1. Click Modify in the Compass Toolbar.

  2. Select the part.

    The balloon appears.

  3. Select Move > Align > Port to Port in the balloon.

  4. Select the port you want to use to move the part.

    The Select Port dialog box appears again.

  5. Select the port you want to align.

  6. Click OK.

    The part will move.

  7. Click Reset to restore original positions.

Move a Part Line to Line

You can align a part using the Line to Line command.

  1. Click Modify in the Compass Toolbar.

  2. Select the part

    The balloon appears.

  3. Select Move > Line to Line in the balloon.

  4. Select the axis of the part you want to move.



  5. Select the axis of the part you want to align with.

    The first part will align itself.

Move a Part Plane to Plane

You can align a part using the Plane to Plane command.

  1. Click Modify in the Compass Toolbar.

  2. Select the part

    The balloon appears.

  3. Select Move>Align > Plane to Plane in the balloon.

  4. Place the plane on the part you want to move, and on the face you want to align, and click.



  5. Now place the plane on the location to which you want the first part to move and click.



    The first part will move to that location. It is important to follow the sequence described above, or you will get different results.



    You can see in the image above that the two surfaces are not aligned. To align them follow the procedure described above - first place the plane on the part you want to move, and then on the surface to which you want to align it.

Move a Part Using Surrounding Box

You can use Surrounding Box command to move a part using surrounding box.

  1. Click Modify in the Compass Toolbar.

  2. Select the part.

    The balloon appears.

  3. Click Manipulate > Move > Surrounding Box in the balloon.



  4. Select the part you want to move.

    The part name displays in the dialog box and the Manipulator appears.

  5. Click and drag with the mouse to move the object in any direction.
