About Ports

Ports carry compatibility information. The compatibility information defined on the port is used to select parts that can be connected to this port. The information is also used to specify the type of network that can be defined and connected to this port (example: fluidic, electrical).

Port Definition

You need to define a part port. The port dictates how a part is placed on the port and how a pipe is routed from the part.

  • Part placement is allowed on this port.
  • Pipe routing can start or end by selecting this port.

Port Attributes

Each port contains specific attributes that dictate the type of part that can be connected to it, and the way it can be oriented. When you create ports, a set of attributes is predefined by the application, and made available to you to define the required values. The following attributes are assigned on a port:


  • Port type: piping, electrical, etc.
  • Nominal size
  • Rating
  • End style
  • Standard
  • Outside diameter
  • Wall thickness
  • Alignment rules
  • Orientation rules
  • Location where other parts can be connected.
