Turn Rules Definition Table

This section describes the Turn Rules and how you can customize them.

The following topics are discussed:

Overview

This section provides a brief overview of the Turn Rules.

The turn rules definition table allows selection of the bend radius during routing. The bend radius is either computed with data entered in a table, or selected by users from a table.

In Project Resource Management, this definition table should be assigned to:

The Turn Rules Definition Table item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Design Resources.

Rule Customization

This section describes the customization options of the Turn Rules.

A typical Turn Rules Definition Table is shown below.

To customize the table, enter a line in the spreadsheet for each standard and nominal size in every material that you use.

Parameter Type Importance Description
V_Standard String Required Used for filtering
DS_Material String Required Used for filtering
V_NominalSize String Required Used for filtering
DS_BendRadius   Optional Enter value required for each standard, material and size
DS_DiameterFactor   Optional/Required Used for calculation if DS_BendRadius does not contain a value
DS_BendDiameter   Optional/Required Used for calculation if DS_BendRadius does not contain a value
V_NominalBendRadius String Optional Provides information only. Displayed in properties of an object and in Turn Rules dialog box.
Comment String Optional Provides information only. Displayed in Turn Rules dialog box.

If there is no value (0) in DS_BendRadius, then the application will try to determine a bend radius value by multiplying DS_DiameterFactor by DS_BendDiameter.

As an example, for Row 2 in the table above, the diameter factor (2) multiplied by the bend diameter (0.25) will be the bend radius.

Sample Resource File

This section explains where to find the sample resource file.

The default location of XXX_XXX_TurnRules.xls is:

..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Specification\

and then the relevant specification, such as SS150R.
