Standards Resource Files

This section describes how to work with standards and lists the resource files associated with standards.

The following topics are discussed:

Standards Overview

This section describes how you can integrate the use of standards in your designs.

By using standards, you can restrict users to certain parts, or part sizes, or other attribute values that are compatible with a project. When a user selects a standard during the part design or system design process, then only the values defined in the resource file tables that are associated with that standard can be applied to the design.

To set this up, create the following resource files:

  • A file of Standards. Create a single containing a list of all the Standards you use.
  • A file of Nominal Sizes. Create one file per standard.
  • A file of End Styles. Create one file per standard.
  • A file of Outside Diameters. Create one file per standard.
  • A file of Ratings. Create one file per standard.
  • A file of Wall Thicknesses. Create one file per standard.

Standards Resource Files

This section lists the resource files associated with standards and includes extracts from the example resource files. For ease of management of these files, each file includes a reference to the standard in its filename and all the files for a standard are grouped together in a directory having the standard as its name.

Standard

This resource file lists all the standards you use.

Example data:

SSTL
SSTLMM

Example files: Piping_Standard.xls and Tubing_Standard.xls

Example file location: ..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Discrete

In Project Resource Management, assign this table to:

The Standard item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Discipline Resources.

Nominal Size

This resource file lists all possible nominal sizes of a part, pipe or tube for a single standard.

Example data:

4mm
5mm
6mm
8mm
10mm

Example file: Tubing_SSTLMM_NominalSize.xls

Example file location: ..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Standard

In Project Resource Management, assign this table to:

The Nominal Size item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Discipline Resources.

End Style

This resource file lists all possible end styles that can be used for a pipe or tube for a single standard.

Example data:

B-NUT
FLARED SLEEVE
FLARED TUBE
FLARELESS MALE
FLARELESS SLEEVE

Example file: Tubing_SSTLMM_EndStyle.xls

Example file location: ..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Standard

In Project Resource Management, assign this table to:

The End Style item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Design Resources.

Outside Diameter

This resource file lists all possible outside diameters of a pipe or tube for a single standard.

Example data:

6mm
8mm
10mm
12mm
14mm

Example file: Tubing_SSTLMM_OutsideDiameter.xls

Example file location: ..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Standard

In Project Resource Management, assign this table to:

The Outside Diameter item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Design Resources.

Rating

This resource file lists all possible ratings of a part, pipe or tube for a single standard.

Example data:

50Bar
100Bar
200Bar
275Bar
350Bar

Example file: Tubing_SSTLMM_Rating.xls

Example file location: ..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Standard

In Project Resource Management, assign this table to:

The Rating item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Design Resources.

Wall Thickness

This resource file lists all possible wall thicknesses of a pipe or tube for a single standard.

Example data:

0.5mm
0.75mm
1mm
1.5mm
2mm

Example file: Tubing_SSTLMM_WallThickness.xls

Example file location: ..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Standard

In Project Resource Management, assign this table to:

The Wall Thickness item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Design Resources.
