Defining a Virtual Bottom Plane

You can use a point to define the bottom plane when nothing is available on floor to define a profile for Pocketing, Profile contouring, Groove milling, Trochoid Milling, and Facing operations as well as Prismatic Machining Areas and Prismatic Rework Areas.

Before you begin: Open a Milling operation dialog box.

Note:

  • The scenario below shows a Pocketing operation but it would be quite similar in a Profile contouring, Groove milling, Trochoid Milling, and Facing operation.
  • It is available also for Prismatic Machining Areas and Prismatic Rework Areas.

About Virtual Bottom Planes
  1. Click the bottom plane in the sensitive icon.

  2. Select a point in the part.

A plane manipulator (showing a virtual bottom plane) is created at the selected point. It is perpendicular to the tool axis.

Note: Any change in the tool axis effectively changes the direction of the virtual bottom plane, keeping it always perpendicular to the tool axis and passing it through the selected point.
