Overview

Assembly Definition allows a user, possibly with a non-manufacturing background, to define within a 3D environment parent manufacturing structures, which comprise child manufacturing assemblies and manufactured parts.

The Assembly Definition User's Guide is intended for users who need to become quickly familiar with the application.

Assembly Definition in a Nutshell

In small and medium businesses, product structure and manufacturing assembly definitions are often done by the same user.

Users can organize the assembly process structure. which is initialized by the product structure, and then define the status of the various assemblies and parts (make/buy decision) in order to prepare manufacturing production.

When design changes to the product structure occur, users can determine what type of change was made (i.e., removing, adding, or modifying a part), and adjust the manufacturing assembly structure accordingly.

After creating the manufacturing assembly structure (corresponding to the assembly process structure), the user can interface with other DELMIA products to:

  • detail the assembly sequence on a specific manufacturing assembly (using Assembly Experience)
  • detail the process planning and work plan for the assembly process defined through the manufacturing assembly structure (using Process Planning and Resource Planning).

Before Reading this Guide

Before reading this guide, you should be familiar with basic Version 6 concepts such as document windows, standard and view toolbars. Therefore, we recommend that you read the Infrastructure User's Guide that describes generic capabilities common to all Version 6 products. It also describes the general layout of Version 6 and the interoperability between workbenches.
