VPM Designer Workspace in a Nutshell

Designers need to be able to work in a place where they can modify and iterate on their data without impacting enterprise data and without being impacted by on-going enterprise data modifications. Designer Workspace enables designers to freely work in a local place, called Workspace, and then deliver local changes to the enterprise data when the work is completed.

Designer workspace content is all data which is the result of filtering a reference product:

  • Workspace content that has been duplicated from the Reference and that you lock becomes Design Data. This data can be locally modified and these modifications can be delivered to the reference product in the database using the Deliver command.
  • Workspace content that has been duplicated from the Reference and that remains unlocked is considered to be Context Data. This data is read-only and cannot be modified.
  • The rest of the data is Shared with the Reference product. This data is not local and cannot be modified. It must be synchronized with the reference to reflect recent modifications.
