Inserting a Reference or Representation Item

You can insert items (links to PLM References, PLM Representations and design Features).

  1. Select a chapter.

  2. Click Insert Item: Reference or Insert Item: Representation .

    Warning:
    • It is not possible to create a Item directly under a Catalog.
    • It is not possible to copy/paste an Item into a Catalog.
    • Only the last version of an Item can be inserted, it is not possible to specify a version.
    • Objects pointed by items will not be displayed in the Catalog tree.
    • Any object that has been modified in session cannot be inserted into a Catalog.
    • Different types of Items can be attached to the same Chapter.
    • When a Reference, Representation or Feature is deleted from the database, the Item pointing to the deleted object is not removed from the Catalog structure. (The next time you try to access the Item, a warning box will indicate that the pointed object has been deleted.)

The corresponding dialog box appears (Insert Item: Reference or Insert Item: Representation). For these two cases, the user interface dialog is identical.

  3. To insert an item already opened in your session, click the From Session tab, click Retrieve Loaded Data and select the item that you want to insert from the list or

click the From Session tab, click Select and select the item directly from an open VPM Navigator or Authoring window.

  4. To insert an item from the database, click the From Search tab, enter a string in the box and click Search. For more information on search capabilities, see Semantic Search in the Infrastructure User's Guide.

  5. Click OK to confirm.

The item is inserted under the the selected chapter and the Manage Keywords dialog box appears.

    Warning:
    • Items inherit from father chapter keywords and from father chapter keyword values (specific values can be specified afterward for an Item). Subsequent keywords added to the father chapter will be inherited by an Item.
    • The Manage Keywords dialog box will not appear if you have used the multi-selection in the results list.
    • Item names are not linked to the pointed object.

  6. In the list, select the keyword you want to modify.

  7. In the Value box, enter a value or use the spinner to indicate a value.

  8. Repeat steps 6 through 7 for as many keywords as you want to modify.

  9. When you have finished, click Close.
