Deactivating External Parameters

You can deactivate external parameters meaning that when the external reference is isolated, it cannot be re-connected to the original parameter, it cannot be synchronized with the pointed value, but it keeps its last value (the value cannot be changed any longer).

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Make sure you have selected:
  • The Parameters and the External References check boxes below the Display in Specification tree settings in the Tools > Options... > Infrastructure > 3D Shape Infrastructure > Display tab.
  • The With Formula and With Value check boxes below the Parameter Tree View settings in the Tools > Options... > General > Parameters and Measuretab.
  • Keep link with selected object check box (Tools > Options... > Infrastructure > 3D Shape Infrastructure > General.)

Create the External Parameter

You can create the external parameter.

  1. Create your file. It must be a product containing 2 Products. The first Product must contain a line and a Line_Length parameter that computes the line length.

  2. Expand the first Product, right-click the Line_Length parameter located below the Parameters node in the specification tree, and select Copy.

  3. Double-click, then right-click the representation located below the second Product and select Paste Special. In the Paste Special dialog box, select As Result With Link and click OK to validate. The External Parameters node is added to the specification tree and the Line_Length parameter is displayed.

Isolate the External Parameter

You can isolate the external parameter.

  1. Click Line_Length below the ExternalParameters node and select Links & Relations from the Edit menu.

  2. Select the link in the window and click Isolate link. Click OK twice. A new Parameters node is created containing the isolated Line_Length parameter and the External parameters node is now empty.

    Note:

    • An isolated external parameter will lose the ability to be synchronized and will keep its last value.
    • Synchronize can also be accessed from the Links dialog box (Edit > Links & Relations.)
