Viewing Sub-Trees

You can hide or show the sub-trees opened using the Open Sub-Tree contextual command.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • This command is not available in the Drafting and V4 Integration workbenches.
  • Running Open Sub-Tree for the first time automatically selects Sub-Trees in the View menu and displays a sub-tree window. However, when existing sub-trees are already hidden, Sub-Trees remains cleared when you run Open Sub-Tree and only the last opened sub-tree is visible. The reason is that the Sub-Trees command impacts only sub-trees created at the time the command is run.

Use a Single Window

You can hide or show all the sub-trees of the current window.

  1. Open an object containing geometrical data.

  2. With the specification tree visible, right-click an element then select Open Sub-Tree.

  3. Select another element then right-click and select Open Sub-Tree.

  4. Click the View menu.

You can see that a check mark is displayed next to the Sub-Trees command as shown below:

When the Sub-Trees command is selected, all the sub-trees opened for the current window are displayed.

  5. Clear Sub-Trees to turn off the display of sub-trees:

If you select the View menu again, you can see that no check mark is displayed anymore which means that all the sub-trees linked to the current window are hidden.

  6. Select Sub-Trees.

The two previously opened sub-trees are now displayed.

Use Multiple Windows

You can work simultaneously with a window in which sub-trees are shown and with a window in which sub-trees are hidden.

  1. Open two windows containing geometrical data.

  2. Select Window > Tile Vertically:

  3. Activate the first window, "ajt_Sample3" in our example.

  4. With the specification tree visible, righ-click an element then select Open Sub-Tree.

  5. Repeat this step for another element.

  6. Activate the second window, "ajt_Capture" in our example.

The two sub-trees opened for the "ajt_Sample3" window are not displayed because sub-trees are visible only for the current window, i.e. "ajt_Capture" right now:

    ajt_Sample3 ajt_Capture

When you select View > Sub-Trees, the command is grayed out because no sub-tree has been opened yet for this window.

The View > Sub-Trees command only affects the current window.

  7. In the second window and with the specification tree visible, select an element then right-click and select Open Sub-Tree.

A new window containing the sub-tree of the selected element is displayed and the Sub-Trees command is now activated in the View menu:

    ajt_Sample3 ajt_Capture

Important: Selecting View > Specifications has no effect on sub-trees because this command hides/shows only the specification tree of the current window.
