Material File-based Design Import

The File-based Design Import product translates documents from V5 to V6. Not all material entities created in V5 can be imported in V6.

FBDI Import Summary

This section lists material entities that can be translated using the FBDI mechanism and discusses the import of default material libraries.

CATMaterial documents containing material libraries CATMaterial documents have no equivalent in V6 but their content is imported:


  • Not imported in standard mode. See File- based Design Import User's Guide:About FBDI Principles.
  • Imported when Use Mapping Tables check box is selected in the Import dialog box.

Material families
  • Not imported in standard mode. See File- based Design Import User's Guide:About FBDI Principles.
  • Imported when Use Mapping Tables check box is selected in the Import dialog box.

Applied Materials
Materials applied as links on parts and features in CATPart documents Imported with data structure modification.

Result: core materials applied to 3D shape instances or features inside a 3D shape instance.
Materials applied as copies on parts and features in CATPart documents Imported with data structure modification.

Result: both core materials and covering materials are created and the core material is applied to 3D shape instances or features inside a 3D shape instance.

Materials applied to a CATProduct document pointed by CATAnalysis documents Imported.

Result: core materials applied to finite element model structural properties.

Important:

  • In V5 a material domain is not created automatically with a material. If necessary, a domain is added after the material is created.

    Migrating a material without a domain from V5 to V6 creates a material without any associated domains.

  • The material name in Version 6 is specified by the name in V5 and a unique V6 ID. The nomenclature in V6 is defined as follows: V5Name

  • Only expressed applied materials are exported. Expressed applied materials are those taken into account by the priority rules and inheritance settings specified in V5.

    A V5 CATMaterial document has no equivalent in V6, but its content is imported as shown below:
