2D Layout for 3D Design File-based Design Import

You can migrate a V5 .CATPart containing a 2D Layout.

For more information about the V5/V6 migration process, refer to File-based Design Import User's Guide.

The following topics are discussed:

FBDI process

The FBDI process is successful when the CATPart containing a 2D Layout:

  • has links to accessible documents only,
  • has links to a non-accessible document but has been isolated (using the Always activated or User choice option via Tools > Options > FBDI tab, Link Isolation section).

However, a few links / items are partially imported.

Resulting 2D layout representation

This table indicates the modified items and their import status.

Version 5 Version 6
Roughness symbol Imported. The roughness symbol is standard compliant in CATIA V6.
Extension line Imported. In a CATIA V5 session, an associated roughness has no extension. After migration, a roughness has an extension line if needed.
Associative balloons Imported but isolated.
2D component instances If the CATDrawing containing the 2D component reference is:
  • accessible, then the 2D component is imported.
  • not accessible, then the 2D component is imported and isolated.
